Ravens Wk 7 Final

By:  Marcus Wyche

Hey sports fans, its that time again to talk about week 7. So let's get to it.

Ravens vs Jags
Let me get this out of the way upfront. The officials were horrible in this game and the NFL owes both teams an apology for it. How do you throw a guy out of the game, when he is being smushed in the face twice right in the refs face, but only one penalty was called, not on both players? How do you justify calling an unnecessary roughness call on Bernard Pollard, for a clean hit? How do you justify not letting the kick off happen, when the Jags only had 10 men on the field? Who's fault was that? Why should the Ravens have to pay for that? Those were just some of the terrible calls that went on in that game, but now let's take a look at the game itself.

I have never seen the Ravens offense look so inept. I am not sure if that was due to the offensive line being terrible, Cam's play calling or the Jags defense being that good. Yes, I understand the Jags have the 8th best defense in the NFL, but c'mon man, we put up a better showing against the number 1 defense in the league(Steelers). It could be a combination of all 3, which is what I truly believe. It seems like the Jags were either run blitzing or pass blitzing every time Flacco hiked the ball and we could not do a thing to stop the rush. We really need Ben Grubbs to come back and now, but we also need to work on our offensive game plan. You mean to tell me, that going against our defense on a daily basis, has not prepared the offense for what might happen in a game? We didn't get a first down until the third quarter, that's just sad. I know the defense has to be pissed off at the offense, I know I would if I were on the defense. They played very well, outside of the officiating.

On the touchdown drive, Flacco looked like he was calling his own plays and things seemed to be working, but I wonder if there is a power struggle going on between Flacco and Cameron. To me it just seems like, Flacco and Cameron are not on the same page. Cameron, seems like he doesn't trust Flacco enough to make the correct changes at the line, based on what he sees, and it's hard to make changes when the play takes for ever to get to the quarterback. It really boggles the mind to think that Cam Cameron is to arrogant to make the in game adjustments needed when the defense is on your original game plan. Don't get me wrong, Monday's loss, there was a lot of blame to go around, from Flacco, Cameron, the o-line, Ray Rice and the receivers(did I miss anyone)? I am just so tired of hearing from Ravens fans that Flacco ain't this, Flacco ain't that. Let me see you do a better job, when you're running for you life or the play doesn't come in to you, until it's 10 seconds left on the play clock and you know the play is not going to work, but you do not have the time to adjust to what the defense is showing. I've heard people say, how we didn't throw more screen passes and all? Hello, if you knew anything about football, you would know, that screen plays do not work against tight man to man coverage. The one time we tried a screen, it got blown up. Think people, what would have been better a better plan of attack, would have been shallow crossing patterns and flooding the zone. I have to say this as well, you give the ball to ray Rice 8 times and wonder why he looks so uninterested while sitting on the sideline. Also, can anyone explain to me why Harbs decided on the doing an onside kick, that if not done correctly, you put the opponents in field goal range? he should have kick the ball threw the end zone and forced them to try and drive the 80 yards to score.

I heard the media trying to make a big deal about what Suggs had to say about the offense after the game, but what was he supposed to say? The offense stunk up the place and he was pissed. Again, you only give the ball to Ray Rice 8 times, the offensive line can't block and Flacco is throwing wild passes, oh and forgot Cameron, can't get the play in fast enough(did I miss anything), what would you expect? Now, one must remember, the year we won the super bowl, we did go 5 games without scoring a touchdown and we did win 3 of those games, so it's not the end of the world, but we need to get better with our offense and we need to do it now. I saw on Twitter, a petition to get rid of Cam Cameron. Let me be the first to say, if it wasn't for the labor issues, Cameron would have been fired, but he's not going to be fired now. We all need to get over that part and hope that we can get our stuff together.

Now we have the Cardinals coming in and we all know they have Fitzgerald coming in and he's a beast. Kevin Kolb, does not scare me as a quarterback, but you have to respect the fact that he's a professional starting quarterback. They also have Beanie Wells, even though he may be a bit banged up, he's still a good back and you have to respect what he can do on the field. I am not to sure about there defense because I have not seen them to much, but I do know that on paper, would should beat them. Their defense is nowhere near as good as Jacksonville's, but who know what defensive game plan they are coming in with. We all know, the Cardinals will come out and spread you out with 4 receiver sets and throw the ball around. It would be in our best interests to knock the receivers off of their timing routes. We know what Larry Fitzgerald can do, but you also have Early Ducette and the often injured Todd Heap. Phil Simms of the Showtime Show, Inside the NFL defended Flacco saying that the receivers were not open and got no separation. Well, Cam Cameron said that receivers were open, but either Joe didn't have time to get them the ball or he didn't see them. What does that say? Our offensive line is not good? Our receivers are over matched? Joe Flacco has regressed?? Would a new offensive coordinator help Flacco's progression? No one really knows, but what I do know, is that it couldn't hurt. I still go back to the Brees and Rivers thing with Cam Cameron. Neither of those guys are known for biting their tongues, so I really what they would say off the record about Cam. I do not know Cam Cameron, nor have I ever met him nor do I claim to be some kind of genius, but it seems to me, that there is a problem and a disconnect between Cameron and Flacco. For the good of the team, something will have to be done, if they want to make the play offs and go far or should I say deep in the play offs. That's just my 2 cents.
