Moss to the Cowboys....Say Whaaaaaaaaat?

While most Cowboys fans are now worried about if Tony Romo can play consistently for an entire game, I am more worried on whether or not Dez Bryant has turned into Lebron James (get it, can only go 3 quarters). And if he can't do it while staying healthy, then we need another veteran presence in here....quick!

While Miles Austin made a nice return to the field against the Jets, the hamstring injury that sidelined him the entire preseason still worries me since hamstring injuries tend to come back....and linger. On the other side of the field is the "man-child" Dez Bryant, who has made more headlines for his off the field adventures then his play on the field since he suffered a broken ankle last year, and now he had another leg injury against the Jets and not enough gas in the tank to make it the entire game. After that, what do the Cowboys have?

Most fans think that between Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, and a stable of potentially average to just above-average running backs that the Cowboys have more offensive weapons then they have footballs. In reality they have some offensive playmakers but are as shallow at wide receiver as Ben Roethlisberger is in the bathroom of a Georgia bar.

With the Cowboys not having the space to sign a big name during the off season or believing they had a need, they now must look for a complement to the speedy underneath "run after the catch" Austin, and the do everything, but don't know if he can stay healthylearn the playbookproperly manage his finances or his pants Bryant.

The depth behind those two is shallow, with no proven commodities. Right now they have: Kevin Ogletree who has been promoted to the #3 wide receiver and has shown that he has talent, now he just has to show that he has the desire and the "want to". Behind Ogletree are the likes of Jesse Holley (more famous for winning Michael Irvin's reality show than playing football), Dwayne Harris (6th Round Draft Pick), and Laurent Robinson (injured). All guys who were either late round draft picks or undrafted free agents who have not shown anything yet, or have not had the opportunity to show anything.

Through the first game of the season & the preseason none of these receivers have shown enough to make you think that they can perform against the likes of Asante Samuel, Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, or even DeAngelo Hall (who gets thrown at so many times he is guaranteed 10 picks a year) and whoever the Giants have playing cornerback now.

So what do I suggest the Cowboys should go out and do?

The Cowboys should go and pick up Randy Moss......

Imagine it:  Randy Moss and Dez Bryant lined up on the outside, Miles Austin using his quickness and lower body power to work the slot, Felix Jones/Demarco Murray out of the backfield, and Jason Witten patrolling the middle of the field looking for the holes in the linebackers.....

Randy Moss was my number one option for the Cowboys before he abruptly retired due to NOT getting the RIGHT offer from a team he wanted to play for. This is somewhat surprising due to the fact that Moss had gotten/kept himself in "freakish shape" this off-season going through two-a-days (Apparently Moss did not keep up with the CBA battle or he would know that two-a-days are against NFL rules now) in West Virginia. While Moss has "announced" his retirement through his agent Joel Segal, until he files his papers with the league office he is not officially retired.

The Cowboys are being considered a dark horse for the Super Bowl (I say that with a straight face even/especially after the Jets fiasco) this year, and a team that Moss has enjoyed destroying his entire career after being slighted by Jerry Jones on draft day way back in 1998. After that draft day slight Moss has made it his personal mission to embarrass the Cowboys every time he plays them, and embarrass them he has to the tune of 30 catches, 607 yards, 10 TD's and 6 wins in the 6 games he has played against America's team.

Would Moss consider coming out of "retirement" to finally play for the team he thought was going to draft him 13 years ago? Our guess is, yes, because Jerry Jones can sell Moss on all the single coverage that he would see due to the other offensive weapons that the team possesses. Even a limping/barely able to run Bryant was dictating Darrelle Revis and a safety over the top in the 4th quarter.  Also Moss would be able to end his career the right way, in the spotlight, rehabbing his image and stats, all while playing for America's team.  And he wouldn't have to worry about taking plays off as he would only play 20% of the snaps.

While Moss has had some problems over the years in the locker room, I believe that the Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett provides that stern leadership style similar to Bill Belichick, and we all know how well Moss performed in New England. Also I think he would act as a mentor to Bryant, now I know that the young Randy Moss may not be a guy to mentor him, but a Randy Moss in the twilight of his career trying to leave a legacy....Tom Brady talked about how great of a teammate he was there, why not in Dallas?

The final and number one reason why Moss will come out of retirement to join the Cowboys......Quarterback Tony Romo! Not only is Romo one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the league (I know kind of a stretch after Sunday night), but he has the 4th best Yards Per Pass Attempt Average in the HISTORY of the NFL (aka he likes to throw it deep, which is what Moss loves). After week 1 of the NFL season, Romo is ranked #5 in the league in yards per attempt at 9.5, and that was with his biggest receiving weapon limping through most of the game. Moss likes to play with good quarterbacks and wide open offenses, both of which the Cowboys can provide.

So what does all this mean? The Dallas Cowboys and Randy Moss are FINALLY the perfect fit for each other, even if it took 13 years, it's a marriage made in heaven. Just pay him in "straight cash homey" on a 1-year contract.

  1. I feel ya but this is not happening. Think what happened to T.O.

  2. Different team now, different leadership and locker room dynamics. Moss is not T.O. and the only way he would sign is if he knew and agreed to the role he would play in the offense.
