Penn State...

by Christie Mac @heartsfootball

Some of you may have seen a post or two of mine on this site, those that have gone as far as to read the About RecinerQb page, know that for the most part I do behind the scenes work for ReclinerQB, and occasionally have the honor of writing an article.

As an avid football fan (pro and college), a mother, well even as a human being, I felt the need to comment in a public forum on the corruption and evil that has come to light in the recent weeks at Penn State.  I would like to share my opinion and share with you some of the opinions that make me believe that the institution of football may have a fighting chance, because to say that I am disheartened by this corruption in my beloved sport, is an understatement.  In case you have been living under a rock, check out the story here.

It seems that every time I tune into ESPN, or 1310 The Ticket (my local sports radio), even the Today Show, I pretty much hear the gory details replayed over and over.  I had decided to keep my mouth shut, even after I read the 23 page Grand Jury Indictment  (which I only made thru about page 8), with all the sick details.

It wasn't until this morning, when I heard two new pieces of information that everything clicked into place and I had to vent.

First, I learned that they are now investigating The Second Mile Foundation, because there is a possibility of it merely being a front to "pimp" children (their term not mine) out to wealthy donors.

WHAT? Yes you read it correctly.

Second, and equally as sick, Junior on The Ticket pointed out, that there is no way, NO WAY that everyone in the Penn State organization did not know exactly what was going on or had gone on, and chose to do nothing about it.

Now when I first heard that, I thought that couldn't possibly be true, no one would stand by while the serial rape of children occurred over and over again, and then after some comments from Barry Switzer and Junior on The Ticket, it clicked.

Switzer said, "Having been in this profession a long time and knowing how close coaching staffs are, I knew this was a secret that was kept secret...Everyone on that staff had to have know, the ones that have been around a long time."

Chilling. Think about it, you are either in or your out as an assistant coach...

I read today, "the only way a monster like Jerry Sandusky survives for this long is to work with another monster--in this care, the other monster is a big time college football program."

I encourage you to read Junior's blog here.

What saddens me even further, is the fact that the board is allowing McQueary has been allowed to continue coaching.  Recognize his name?  He is the guy that caught the monster in action...he is equally as culpable as everyone else who thought that the appropriate thing to do when you are witness to a child being raped is to report it up the internal chain of command, and not call the police.

Click here to read about some possible reasons he hasn't been fired, SI some great information on that issue.  They said that he may be protected by PA's Whistleblower Law.  I call BS, I say he knows where the bodies are and he is keeping his job to protect the secrets.  Disgusting.

And a final note to all of the students marching in protest that Paterno was fired, it is my sincere hope that it is the simple fact that you have not been on this earth long enough to understand the gravity of what has happened at your beloved institution in the name of college football.  It is not the game that matters, it is the destruction of young lives and subsequent cover up, please try to see past the game on Saturday and reflect on the severity of the entire situation.

Opinions? Bring it! @heartsfootball
